Haven’t thought about it or haven’t intentionally set any?
Where to start…
First determine what your boundaries will be! Think about any strict conditions that you would like to establish for yourself, such as your working hours and the best times for clients or team members to contact you. Trying to juggle as much as is humanly possible is not the goal here. Rather, approach it from the perspective of what you actually want to accomplish in your career.
Next, communicate these boundaries to your clients and team members. Let your team know your availability to answer questions so that they know your schedule and how to work around this. As for clients, if you run your own business where you’re collaborating directly with clients, you may require prior approval before implementing new policies around your availability. Set expectations early in your service agreement and outline consequences if any.
Finally, one of the most important things to remember while respecting your boundaries is that “no” is a complete sentence. As a business owner, you have the authority to say “no” to anything that does not fit with your priorities or values. To preserve your serenity and become a stronger biz owner/leader in the long run, it may be worthwhile to forgo short-term revenue opportunities.
Remember this is your business! Once boundaries are set and upheld, you are doing everyone a better service knowing how to work with you and offer your best self.
