And we don’t mean in Google Chrome, we mean in your busy brain!
Many of us relate to “my brain has too many tabs open” – the overwhelming feeling of having an absurd number of thoughts and ideas running through your mind at the same time, with an ever-growing to-do list. The mental equivalent of having multiple browser windows open on your computer screen.
We have some strategies for those tabs open!
BREATHE 🧘🏽♀️
Consciously stop and take a deep breath.
Inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth (sigh loudly!). Concentrate on breathing in and out entirely through your nose, in for four (literally count 1–2–3–4) and out for four. Do it once more!
MOVE 💃🏼
We’re all well aware of the health benefits that being physically active can have on our body.
The brain is affected in the same way. You don’t need to run a marathon, simply rise up from your desk and stretch, take a walk outside or start dancing!
ACCEPT 🤷🏾♀️
You know you’re busy, you’re accepting the chaos.
Slow down on opening more tabs and get a hold on what’s going on in the moment.
We are continuously bombarded with information from multiple devices, and our communication habits rarely have an off switch. We’re checking DM’s on Instagram, responding to comments on Facebook, answering FaceTime calls, reviewing emails and communicating via text. That’s a lot going on!! Some days, we just need a digital detox – whether it’s no TV, no mobile phone, no laptop. If you can switch off for a few hours to allow some clear space to process the flurry of content in your brain, this will hopefully lessen the addiction to being busy.
Busy is a drug many of us are addicted to – I’m slowly weaning off, how about you?
